Game of Thrones has featured several ambitious characters during its run, but very few are as charismatic as the Lord of The Tides Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint) in the prequel House of The Dragon. Hence it shocked a lot of fans when he was injured gravely in battle off-screen in episode 8 ‘The Lord of the Tides’, and spent two episodes in a coma. Corlys will be playing a pivotal role in the Dance of the Dragons, hence it was a relief when he finally returned in episode 10.

However, episode 8 was supposed to begin on a very different note. According to a reveal by House of The Dragon storyboard artist Adam Prescott, the episode was originally intended to begin with a war sequence, where we would have seen Corlys Velaryon and his men under attack by the triarchy, and finally, a scene where we see Corlys getting injured and drowning in the ocean under a pool of blood.

The scene was cut off, and instead, we only get a narration of the event by Corlys’ brother Vaemond Velaryon, which sets off a chain of events that leads to him losing his head.
