House of the Dragon left out a Daemon Targaryen scene from season finale due to budget cuts

The deleted scene would have set up Daemon’s whereabouts in Season 3 much better

House of the Dragon was one of the best shows of 2024, despite several flaws that incited fan outrage. One of the most common complaints was the shorter length of season 2. A number of scenes from the storyboards could not make it to the screen due to that. An important Daemon Targaryen scene was also left in the cuts, which would have given a better conclusion to the last season.

A Daemon Targaryen scene was among Season 2 episode cuts

House of the Dragon Season 2 initially had a longer storyboard, but a number of scenes did not make it to the cut. While some were explained through dialogues, others had to be assumed. For instance, Daemon surveying his army at Harrenhal in Season 2 finale was initially supposed to be in episode 7. Originally, it was a scene depicting Daemon leaving Harrenhal on Caraxes.

More House of the Dragon scenes that were cut from Season 2

This is not the first time an important scene was cut off from House of the Dragon. Just like Alicent’s wedding with Viserys had several scenes with Rhaenyra that were not shown on-screen, Season 2 removed the last moments of Princess Rhaenys Targaryen. There was also more footage of Alicent and Criston Cole’s intimate moments which were deleted. Hopefully, there will be less cuts in Season 3.
