HBO’s The Last of Us wraps up filming, releases first look at Joel and Ellie
Video Games have always been an easy escape from reality for players. They open the door to a fantastical world that immerses the audience in their graphic beauty and story. Some of them have become important pop culture icons all over the world. Some are even as popular as famous TV shows, such as Game of Thrones. The two modes are now coming together, as hardcore gaming fans rejoice at the live adaptation of The Last of Us. Even better, two famous Game of Thrones alums will be playing important roles on the TV show.
During an appearance at Thursday’s Summer Game Fest showcase, studio co-president Neil Druckmann confirmed that filming of the show wrapped up on June 10. Along with the announcement, HBO released the first look at The Last of Us, starring Game of Thrones alums Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as the game’s lead characters; Joel and Ellie.
Druckmann hinted at a 2023 release date for the adaptation, which he’s co-writing and executive producing with Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin.
In addition to Ramsey and Pascal, HBO’s The Last of Us series adaptation also stars Gabriel Luna (Agents of SHIELD) as a former soldier and Joel’s younger brother Tommy, Merle Dandridge (The Last of Us) as resistance movement Fireflies chief Marlene, Jeffrey Pierce (The Last of Us) as a quarantine zone rebel Perry (an original character for the show), Anna Torv (Fringe) as Joel’s smuggler partner Tess, Nico Parker (Dumbo) as Joel’s daughter Sarah, Murray Bartlett (The White Lotus) as isolated survivalist Frank, and theatre actor Con O’Neill as Frank’s fellow survivalist Bill.
