HBO has revealed the cure for Greyscale and the fans are disappointed
July 28th, 7:49pm July 28th, 7:49pm Amrit PratyushAn engineering student by profession who is at heart a true fan of Game of Thrones and loves to think and put those ideas on paper. Influenced by GRRM, Amish Tripathi and sacred texts from Indian Mythology. Yes, I strongly believe in God.
The second episode of seventh season of HBO’s high voltage fantasy series, ‘Game of Thrones’ finally revealed one answer fans were looking for since a really long time. Jorah Mormont has been inflicted by the deadly Greyscale disease since the 5th season of the show. Greyscale, also known as ‘Prince Garin’s curse’ is a deadly and contagious skin disease, most prevalent in the abandoned cities of Essos such as ruins of Valyria. The disease calcinates the infected person’s body and ultimately petrifies him to death before giving him a whole lot of pain and agony.
Jorah Mormont, at the command of his Khaleesi went on an expedition to search for the cure of this disease. He finally ended up in Citadel with Samwell Tarly which was exactly as expected.
For past couple of seasons, many conjectures and assumptions were made and a pile of fan theories came forward on curing Greyscale. While fans were expecting something more exciting like ‘ingestion of dragonglass’ or ‘Dragonfire’ for the cure of Greyscale; the show runners came up with something that is probably too meek.
Archmaester Pylos, who apparently died of Greyscale as well, has mentioned a secret cure for the disease in his book ‘A study of rare diseases’. Instead of being something mysterious, the process involved simple surgery and medications. HBO’s production design team released pictures of Archmaester Pylos’ book and the procedure was clearly mentioned in it. For now, all we know is that the process first involved peeling off the infected skin from the person’s body and applying an ointment over the infected areas.
The ointment as well was not made up of any secret ingredients, but a simple mixture of pine resin, elder twig bark, beeswax and olive oil.
For the magical world of ‘Game of Thrones’ which has Dragons and White Walkers and what not, do you seriously consider olive oil for curing an enigmatic ailment like Greyscale? Fans were pretty disappointed and the twiterattis took the segment with tough hands.
SAM: I think I can cure your grayscale.
JORAH: How?
SAM: By doing the most obvious thing.
