Harrison Ford was initially offered the role of Bill in The Last of Us
Since its premiere, “Long Long Time,” the third episode of The Last of Us, has garnered a lot of affection. What is particularly noteworthy about this episode is the tale of Bill and Frank. The eccentric friendship slowly grows into a beautiful romance over time, and by the end of the episode, they become two of the most adored characters in the show. However, the role of Bill was initially offered to an acting legend, before it was passed on to Nick Offerman.
Harrison Ford passed on the role of Bill in The Last of Us
Everyone knew by the end of Season 1 that The Last of Us would be up there among the greats in the awards season. The video game adaptation began its Emmy Awards walk with a massive 8-title romp, much higher than its competitors. And Nick Offerman was one of the winners, as he was awarded Outstanding Guest Actor In A Drama Series. The role, however, was initially offered to Harrison Ford.
In an interview with Deadline, Offerman revealed, “I was lucky this time. They needed a guy who could use a shovel. Three of us in Hollywood, Harrison Ford passed and Jane Lynch was not available.”
Will Bill and Frank return in The Last of Us Season 2?
Though the game follows a different storyline, there’s little chance we will get to see Bill and Frank again in the show, as they are already dead by the time Joel and Ellie arrive at their house. However, they might appear in flashbacks, as suggested by Offerman,
“I would have to ask somebody with a higher pay grade than myself. It certainly has been pitched. I think we pitched a whole mini-series of a prequel of their lives before they met each other. It could be a musical. We’re not short on ideas. We’ll just we’ll see what Craig [Mazin] and Neil [Druckmann] come up with.”
