House of the Dragon’s Graham McTavish notes that most of his roles involve riding horses and swinging swords

Graham McTavish is one of television’s most recognizable faces, having appeared in a number of popular fantasy shows and left an indelible impact with his superb performances. From Outlander to Lucifer to The Witcher, he is one of the most respected and adored actors, and in one of his more recent roles, the Game of Thrones prequel is set to make him one of the most beloved characters. McTavish plays Ser Harrold Westerling in House of The Dragon, and he’ll be back for Season 2 with a lot more in store for his character.
Graham McTavish notes his involvement in fantasy genre
In his most recent interview with Insider, McTavish said, “It is strange that I seem to spend a great deal of my career now just riding around on horseback, wearing cloaks, carrying candles, armed with a sword. Obviously, they are very different in lots of ways, but what the fantasy world allows you is a sort of latitude that you don’t get in some other genre. So, if I was sat behind a desk as Dijkstra with a cellphone, it wouldn’t be as interesting.”
Graham McTavish is a big fan of the fantasy genre
McTavish went on to express how much he loves the fantasy genre, “I am a big fan of that genre so the opportunity to perform in it has been absolutely fantastic. That’s what I want to do, so it’s been very fortuitous. So I started with ‘The Hobbit,’ I suppose, and I’ve never worn a suit since.”
