George R. R. Martin discusses ASOIAF plans for 2018. Gives no update on The Winds of Winter

As we all know, Game of Thrones is currently filming for Season 8. While the story is based on A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin, it has already surpassed the story we know from the books, and we are in uncharted waters now. The last two books in the series are left to be published, and the sixth one, i.e. The Winds Of Winter, is supposed to drop sometime soon. In a new post on his Not A Blog, discussing Hugo Award nominations, George talked about what is in store for ASOIAF based writings in 2018. Read on!
The fans asked him about what he is planning on writing, in the ASOIAF universe, in the new year, and he responded saying “FIRE & BLOOD is planned.” That refers to the history books based around the Targaryens, set to come out in two volumes. He didn’t talk about The Winds of Winter, which has been getting delayed for quite a while now. However he did comment on the series as a whole:
“On the other extreme, I don’t consider A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE a series either; it’s one single story, being published in (we hope) seven volumes.”
The “we hope” got quite a lot of reactions from fans. As we know, the series is supposed to end with seven books, the seventh one being called A Dream of Spring, but looks like GRRM isn’t quite sure of the structure yet. So there is a good chance there might be one more volume, but let’s hope there isn’t because the seven promised ones are taking enough time to get here, and with that timeframe, extending the series might as well mean we never get to see the end of it. A fan did ask GRRM if there could be an eighth volume, to which he responded:
“If so, that’s news to me.”
So, what do you guys think? Will we get The Winds of Winter this year? Talk to us in the comments, down below!
