Iconic Game of Thrones episode ‘The Spoils of War’ aired 6 years ago
Season 7, episode 4 of Game of Thrones, was released six years ago. The episode aired on this day, August 6th, 2017. Entitled “The Spoils of War,” it showcased significant plot developments and intense action scenes. After successfully capturing Highgarden and acquiring its resources, Jaime Lannister leads the Lannister forces back to King’s Landing. Unbeknownst to them, Daenerys launches a surprise attack with the Dothraki and Drogon, decimating the Lannister soldiers with fire and chaos.
In a dramatic climax, Jaime attempts to kill Daenerys but is saved by Bronn. They both fall into a river as Drogon’s flames reach them. This battle highlights the devastating power of dragons and marks a significant blow to the Lannister army.
In addition to this grueling battle, the other plotlines in the episode include King’s Landing where Cersei and Tycho discuss the Crown’s debts to the Iron Bank.
At Winterfell, Littlefinger tries to learn from Bran about his experiences, but is surprised when Bran repeats Littlefinger’s earlier remark. Meera says farewell to Bran, who seems indifferent. Arya arrives and Bran knows of her kill list. Brienne and Arya spar to a draw.
Finally, At Dragonstone, Jon shows Daenerys cave drawings, and she wants him to bend the knee if he is to get any help from her. Daenerys considers attacking King’s Landing and seeks Jon’s advice. Theon arrives at Dragonstone for Daenerys’ help, only to find out she has left.
“The Spoils of War” holds the distinction of being the series’ shortest episode and was written by the creators of the show, David Benioff and D. B. Weiss.
