Interview
Tara Fitzgerald (Selyse Baratheon) would love to return in a Game of Thrones spinoff
Tara Fitzgerald’s character met an unceremonious end in Game of Thrones, but she is open to returning
The world of Westeros (and the continents beyond) is the new cash cow of HBO and Warner Bros. And you can’t really blame them. After all, George R. R. Martin‘s lore is as vast as one’s imagination can run wild; there’s something for everyone. And Tara Fitzgerald, who played Selyse Baratheon, hopes that there is something for her too in one of those spinoffs in development.
Tara Fitzgerald is open to her character’s return
Tara Fitzgerald’s character met an unceremonious end in Game of Thrones, when she committed suicide after being overburdened with grief by her daughter’s death. There’s much that we don’t know about her character, and she is open to exploring her origins. When asked if she was interested in returning in an interview with Bang Showbiz, she said,
“Oh god, of course yeah! That was something that I was really blessed to have been a part of that show. I love that show. I really love the show. So, of course. I’m sure any of the other actors would say ‘yes.’”
However, she was also aware a resurrection was probably not on the charts, considering how that would complicate the storyline, “Selyse met a very sticky end. So, I’m not so sure whether she could be resurrected.”
Tara Fitzgerald compares working on an indie movie with Game of Thrones
Fitzgerald has worked on several indie projects after her time on Game of Thrones came to an end, such as Portraits of Dangerous Women. She compared her contrasting experience with respect to the scale of production:
“When it’s working well, I don’t think there is that much difference. For instance, on ‘Game of Thrones’, the care and attention that was put into everything on that … and the hands-on nature of it. I think, for instance, they’re comparable – very low budget, very high budget – at their best.
But then of course big set pieces, CGI, or these huge differences. I suppose, as an actor, less of an ability to see the big picture than you would on something smaller. When it’s run as well as ‘Game of Thrones’ was run, then the flavor is very much a sort of common enterprise.”
