Game of Thrones actor Jonathan Pryce nominated for Best Actor at 2020 Oscars
The Game of Thrones cast has had some real gems, and we have seen them shine on, as well as outside of the show. One example of such a great actor is Jonathan Pryce, who has now landed a Best Actor nomination at the The 92nd Academy Awards, a.k.a. The Oscars. Read on!
The Academy today announced the full list of nominations for the 92nd Academy Awards, 2020, and the Best Actor category is looking especially good this year. Take a look:
Best actor in a leading role
Joaquin Phoenix, “Joker” Adam Driver, “Marriage Story” Leonardo DiCaprio, “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” Antonio Banderas, “Pain and Glory”
Jonathan Pryce, “The Two Popes”
Jonathan Pryce played the role of the cult leader High Sparrow on Game of Thrones. The role gained him a lot of praise, and it was also pointed out that the High Sparrow seemed like a twisted take on the Pope, and that Pryce looked a lot like Pope Francis. Thats’s not all, Pryce even said he drew inspiration from Pope Francis to portray the High Sparrow. The best part is, Pryce played Pope Francis in The Two Popes, and this is the role for which he has now gained an Oscar nomination.
While we would love for Pryce to take this win, especially for the Pope connection, the category seems pretty locked with Joaquin Phoenix set to win, and Adam Driver pulling right behind him. The 2020 Oscars ceremony will be held on February 9th.
