Ex-HBO chief responsible for Game of Thrones signs 5-year deal with Apple

Game of Thrones was undoubtedly one of the most successful shows of all time. So much so that millions of its fans still remember the minute details associated with the show. However, very few people know the man who was responsible for bringing the show in front of such a large audience.
As per the Deadline, Richard Plepler, the former CEO of HBO and the prime reason behind the airing of shows like Game of Thrones, Big Little Lies, The Newsroom has now signed the deal with Apple TV+. Read on to find out more!
Plepler who was associated with HBO for 28 years until February 2019 has now decided to join hands with the direct rival of his former company, Apple. He won’t be working in the same capacity as he did for HBO though. He has now formed a company, Eden Productions, which will make TV shows, documentaries, and films exclusively for the Apple TV+ streaming service.
Speaking about the new move in his career, Plepler said:-
“It was instantaneously clear to me that I had a wonderful and very privileged run at HBO and I wasn’t going to be able to duplicate that again. And I didn’t want to try to duplicate that again. It felt very clear to me that I just wanted to do my own thing.”
Plepler decided to move on from HBO even before the final season of Game of Thrones had aired. Could he have made any difference to the final season had he stayed on? Who knows! One thing is for sure, Apple is going to greatly benefit from having a man of his caliber at the helm of affairs.
