Emma D’Arcy and Olivia Cooke couldn’t stop giggling while filming the knife scene in Episode 7

Though Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen and Dowager Queen Alicent Hightower start out as best friends at the beginning of House of the Dragon, they become bitter enemies by the time season 1 ends. However, the actors playing the roles are extremely close to each other. Olivia Cooke, who plays Alicent, recently recalled how she bonds with Emma D’Arcy (Rhaenyra) on set.
Filming the knife scene was exhausting for Olivia Cooke and Emma D’Arcy
In the Wraps Unwrapped podcast, Cooke recalled, “Well, unfortunately, we don’t really have that much time together, so when we are in a scene together, it is sort of really Moorish. I think we were just incredibly excited to play. And then there was in Season 1, you know, there was the knife scene which we shot over a period of five days. By the end of it, it was just like mania, both of our eyeballs felt like husks in our faces.”
Olivia Cooke and Emma D’Arcy kept giggling during the knife scene
Cooke went on to reveal how the knife scene was filmed over 5 days, “Well, that was 27 years of a really intense relationship that culminated in this being held at knifepoint by me. To keep up that intensity for five days was such a heavy task. So by the end of it, we couldn’t really look at each other. We’re looking everywhere because we are just crying but also hysterically giggling as well cuz we had nothing left.”
