Interview
Cregan Stark might not appear during the rest of House of the Dragon Season 2
Winter will have to wait.
Fans of House Stark had been waiting for their return to Winterfell for a really long time. And it did happen in the grandest way possible, in the House of the Dragon Season 2 premiere. We get to see Jacaerys walking along the Wall with young Lord Cregan Stark, before being pulled away by the news of his younger brother’s death. However, it seems like Cregan will mostly be absent from the story.
Ryan Condal says Jacaerys and Cregan are the future of the realm
House of the Dragon showrunner Ryan Condal knows the importance of the two characters in Fire and Blood. The two are practically brothers, with Cregan becoming very important later on in the story. Condal told EW:
“This is the future of the realm: the two of them. It’s literally the ‘Song of Ice and Fire,’ with Targaryen and Stark, but that only sustains itself for so long. [The scene in the show] was the version that gets all the information that you need: it’s a political victory for Jace, we introduce Cregan, we understand his quandary with winter coming and having to release troops, and all that. We have so many other POVs to cover and satisfy on both Black and Green side. That was always the appropriate amount of story.”

Tom Taylor confirms his reduced involvement in House of the Dragon Season 2
As Cregan made it clear in the first episode, he himself can’t be involved in the war right now; however, he did send his men to help out the Blacks. This might indicate his absence from the rest of the season, seemingly confirmed by Tom Taylor himself:
“I was just itching to do more, as well. I was in the costume. I was like, ‘I just want to keep acting.’ But, yeah, it’s just a little tease for now.”
Condal, too, pondered Cregan’s involvement later on in House of the Dragon. He said, “We’ll see how that plays. Anybody who reads the books knows that he does play a role in the larger Dance of the Dragons. I would love to have Tom back. We really enjoyed working with him, but I think we need to play the story out a bit and see where it takes us.”
