Columbia Business School professor says Sansa Stark is the best leader in Game of Thrones
From a naive and annoyingly dreamy ‘little bird’, Sansa Stark has grown into a super strong and confident leader within the space of eight seasons. The attention may be centred on Cersei, Jon, and Daenerys at the moment, but some fans argue that Sansa has plenty of traits that make her a good contender for the Iron Throne. Columbia Business School professor and author Bruce Craven agrees.
Craven has penned a book named ‘Win or Die: Leadership Secrets from Game of Thrones‘, and recently spoke to CNBC on the different facets of leadership present in the world of Game of Thrones. According to him, Sansa is the character with the best leadership qualities among all the key players left in the Game.
The key to this growth, in Craven’s opinion, is her ability to adapt and survive in the face of unimaginable adversity. Craven says, “She managed to learn from very difficult, treacherous people and, at the same time, stay true to her values about protecting her family.”
Sansa with Lord Petyr ‘Littlefinger’ Baelish in Season 7, whom she sentenced to death by the end of that season.
This is almost an echo of what Tyrion Lannister says to Sansa in Season 8 Episode 1 – “Many underestimated you. Most of them are dead now.”
And some horror she has endured! Sansa was held captive in the Red Keep, she was manipulated and misled by Littlefinger for a long time, and then was forced to marry the sadistic Ramsay Bolton who tormented and abused her. Sansa rose like a phoenix from those circumstances even as she learnt from them. She may hate Cersei and Littlefinger but if anybody can be said to have inherited their political acumen that is Sansa.
But underneath all this, she has continued to follow the just and pro-people ruling style of her father – Ned Stark. Jon Snow has been compared many times with the Stark patriarch. But in Craven’s words, Sansa exemplifies his values better even while improving upon them with her newfound learning – “Sansa managed to extract insights about the power of potential competitors while also staying true to the stronger, more admirable qualities of her father Ned … and her whole family.” No wonder she is the only one worrying about food store, winter-ready armours, and whether the troops are ready for battle or not in the whole show.
Sansa speaking about Northern independence to Queen Daenerys Targaryen in Season 8 Episode 2
This is perhaps the reason Sansa managed to hold her ground against the imperious power of Daenerys Targaryen where even seasoned and battle-savvy men like Tyrion and Jon failed. Their negotiation scene in Season 8 Episode 2 remains one of the best in series, precisely because Sansa matched the power posturing of Daenerys blow by blow.

Iwan Rheon, famous for his portrayal of Ramsay Bolton in the show Game of Thrones, is all set to join the cast of American Gods. While the release date of American Gods third season isn’t out yet, we know for sure that Rheon will feature in the show in its latest season. According to the a report by Entertainment Weekly, the Game of Thrones star will be playing “a charming, good-natured leprechaun” character named Liam Doyle.
What? Hang on a minute! A charming, good-natured character? The man who portrayed the most inhuman, insensitive and sadistic character of all time will be acting all goody goody in the upcoming show?
Sometimes some characters leave such a large imprint on audience psyche that it becomes impossible for actors to break away from it. We hope for Rheon’s sake that he manages to create another great character.
As per the network, Rheon’s latest character will be introduced as someone trying to steer away from the cliched leprechaun image – ‘until he finds himself swept back into our world of gods, luck, and magic’. The show will also feature the likes of Marilyn Manson, Danny Trejo and Dominique Jackson.
The challenge for Rheon and the rest of the cast of Game of Thrones, as they begin to disperse into other ventures, is going to be how they manage to satisfy the artists within them along with staying relevant. For now, we can only wait and watch.

Game of Thrones might have been the king at the Emmy’s, but when it comes to the Golden Globes it has always been snubbed. It might not be fair to say that it was snubbed this year, as Kit Harington has grabbed the only nomination for the final season of the show at the 2020 Golden Globes. Read on!
The nominations for the 2020 70th Golden Globe awards were announced today, and while HBO managed to get 15 nominations, only one of them was for Game of Thrones. Kit Harington, who played the role of Jon Snow on the show managed to grab a nomination in the best actor in a drama series.
The show has previously grabbed multiple best drama nominations, and a couple of actor nominations to Peter Dinklage and Lena Headey. Dinklage is the only winner, having received the supporting actor in a series, miniseries or motion picture made for television, back in 2012.
While Dinklage won the Best Actor Emmy for the year, he wasn’t the choice for this nomination. Given the fact that Kit Harington was considered might be surprising for some, but he might make it.
The 77th Annual Golden Globe Awards will be hosted by Ricky Gervais, and will be held on Sunday, January 5 at 8:00 p.m. ET / 5:00 p.m. PT. Do you think Kit could win this one? Talk to us in the comments, down below!
It’s that time of the year, and HBO has a little something for those of us that still love Game of Thrones enough. Nearly half a year after the end of the show, HBO is now bringing the whole series out on Blu-ray, just in time for the holidays. Read on!
You might remember the frenzy that everybody entered a couple of days ago when the official Game of Thrones Twitter account tweeted out “Winter is Coming”, but it turns out that this was just a warning that millions of Game of Thrones fans can now get their hearts broken, again, from the comfort of their homes. This marks the arrival of the complete series on optical disks, with a total of three sets — a normal Blu-ray set, a DVD set, and a collector’s edition Blu-ray set. The normal Blu-ray is priced at $199.99, the DVD set at $169.99, and the collector’s edition at $249.95. For now, the sets are open for preorders, and you can find the links to your preferred retailer, here. The sets will be available on the 3rd of December.
The one issue seems to be that these are not 4K HDR Blu-ray prints, which isn’t really acceptable in 2019. So far, only Season 1 has gotten the 4K HDR treatment, and there is no clue about when we might get to see a 4K HDR Blu-ray set.
