Game of Thrones is a giant production. The show has now entered the production of its final season, and that’s currently going on at the Titanic Studios, in Belfast, Northern Ireland. As we know, the show has filmed in Belfast for years now, and the location has become quite an iconic element in the production of the show, and there is no doubt Belfast loves Game of Thrones as much as Game of Thrones loves Belfast, so much so that the Belfast Airport has now gotten renamed to honor the show! Read on!

The Belfast airport has been renamed to Westeros Airport, and the name will apparently stay for the rest of the festive season, says a new report by JOE.

We were the first to report about this yesterday, when we published this information on twitter and now thanks to JOE, we have more pictures.

Here’s a photo from #Belfast International airport that one of our readers sent us. The pic was taken today.

If you notice carefully, counter no 17 has Kit Harington’s face on the screen. That’s supposed to be the counter that Kit will use while departing#GameofThrones pic.twitter.com/XmxIgEFa74

We have all seen how big of a help Game of Thrones has been for Northern Ireland’s tourism and entertainment industry, with all the Game of Thrones attention bringing them some much deserved attention. Now, as we know Game of Thrones films in multiple locations in Belfast along with the city itself, but this gesture is a nice way to remind the fans that they have entered the realm of Game of Thrones.

Moyra Lock, Head of Marketing at Northern Ireland Screen said in a comment :

“HBO’s official re-naming of the Belfast’s International Airport is a fantastic opportunity to cement Northern Ireland as the home of Game of Thrones. The show has spearheaded a growing screen tourism phenomenon and we’re delighted to welcome all fans and travellers officially to Westeros this December.”

Graham Keddie, managing director of Belfast International Airport also spoke about the why they decided to do this :

“As the principal airport for Northern Ireland, we look forward to welcoming the hundreds-of-thousands of passengers, as well as meeters and greeters that will be travelling through the terminal over the festive period and will be able to visit Westeros, right here, at Belfast International Airport.”

Well, this is some fine marketing, and a sort of thanksgiving from Belfast, to the show. What do you think? Planning on flying to Belfast this holiday season? Talk to us in the comments, down below!
