Amazon's The Grand Tour beats Game of Thrones in illegal downloads
Amazon Prime Video seems to be finally getting some much needed traction from the new show they’re producing with the Top Gear trio : The Grand Tour. It is still only a few episodes in, but it has already beaten Game of Thrones to become the most illegally downloaded show, according to a report by the Daily Mail.
Episode 1 was fetched 7.9 million times, while 2 and 3 hit 6.4 million and 4.6 million downloads, respectively. The Daily Mail report relied on MUSO, the piracy analyst, for this data.
These numbers take The Grand Tour beyond the ‘industry leaders’ like our favorite, Game of Thrones, and the Zombie drama which always seems to be the second most loved show, The Walking Dead. 2015 placed Game of Thrones at 14.4 million, with The Walking Dead at 6.9 million downloads., according to TorrentFreak.
The report also said that The Grand Tour lost a whopping £3.2 million in Britain on the first episode alone. When asked to comment on the massive piracy, Amazon said :
“The Grand Tour has become the biggest show premiere ever on Amazon Prime Video, breaking records around the world.”
