Alicent and Aegon actors’ age gap surprises House of the Dragon fans

Casting older men as young characters and young women as older characters is nothing new. House of the Dragon audiences are aware of how young Olivia Cooke, who plays Queen Alicent, actually is. The on-screen mother of four is just 28 years old in real life. Alicent’s eldest son Aegon is supposed to be 20 years old. But Tom Glynn-Carney, who plays Aegon, is only a year younger than Olivia.

Olivia seemed a believable mother to the younger children’s cast, with the 20-year-old Ty Tennant playing Aegon. Nevertheless, the show has tried its best to age the actress further. Her dressing has become more mature, featuring deeper greens and staid silhouettes. By episode 9, the Dowager Queen is somewhere around 35 years old.

Ewan Mitchell, who plays Alicent’s younger son Aemond Targaryen, is 25, three years younger than Olivia. And Helaena Targaryen actress Phia Saban is 24. Ty Tennant would have been acceptable in his role for a few more episodes, but Ewan Mitchell is absolutely perfect as Aemond. There is no way Ty would have looked older than Ewan, so you win some, you lose some.
