Steffon Darklyn’s death foreshadows a major character death for House of the Dragon
Will we get a similar scene in the final season?
Despite the absence of violent clashes in the latest episode of House of the Dragon, it highlighted the fascinating interactions between dragons and their riders. Seasmoke set Ser Steffon Darklyn ablaze, a man who possessed a fractional Targaryen heritage. However, this scene held a deeper significance than one might imagine.
The manner of Steffon Darklyn’s death is very similar to one character in House of the Dragon
With a lot of hope, Rhaenyra took a chance with Ser Steffon Darklyn on Jacaerys’ suggestion. Though the plan seemed to have worked in the beginning, it fell flat when Seasmoke burns Darklyn to a crisp, and Rhaenyra stands horrified, gasping at the fiery spectacle. This is a foreshadowing of her own death, when she will be caught by Aegon’s supporters and burnt and devoured by Sunfyre towards the end of the civil war.

This is not the first time Rhaenyra’s fate was foreshadowed
In Game of Thrones Season 3, Episode 4, Joffrey Baratheon escorts Margaery Tyrell through the Great Sept of Baelor. He highlights the tombs of the Targaryens, recounting the grim fate of Rhaenyra Targaryen. Joffrey recounts that her brother, Aegon II, was responsible for her death, feeding her to his dragon, a detail that foreshadows her demise in Fire and Blood.
