Sophie Turner returns to HBO with Real-life Crime Drama The Staircase
The world is full of mysteries. Some are beautiful in nature like the working of the universe. Others, grimmer in context, are created by humans. Mostly, these enigmas are cover-ups for misdeeds of the past. They appear to be vastly different from what they usually are, and hence complicate the real story. There are many real-life astounding stories of how criminals have tried to keep their acts under layers of lies and shadows. It takes decades of investigation to get to their roots. Game of Thrones actress Sophie Turner has joined HBO Max’s adaptation of The Staircase.
Inspired by the Netflix’s true-crime documentary series, this star-studded drama already boasts a cast list including Toni Collette, Colin Firth, Juliette Binoche, Rosemarie DeWitt and Parker Posey. Sophie will portray one of convicted killer Michael Peterson’s adopted daughters, Margaret Ratliff.
Written by co-executive producers, The Devil All the Time’s Antonio Campos and American Crime Story’s Maggie Cohn. The series centres on Michael (played by Firth) and the mysterious death of his wife Kathleen (Collette).
Campos will also direct six of the eight episodes. Little Fires Everywhere star DeWitt is on board as Kathleen’s sister Candace Zamperini. The Good Wife’s Posey will play Freda Black – the assistant district attorney and prosecutor in the murder case.
Sophie will also be seen in the thriller movie Heavy. Are you excited about Sophie Turner’s return to HBO? Talk to us in the comments below!
We have seen several protective mothers on-screen over the years, but very few come close to Lysa Arryn from Game of Thrones. After losing her husband, she kind of lost her mind and became overprotective of her son, Robert Arryn. Actress Kate Dickie, beautifully portrayed the character, bringing out the craziness and a mother’s love perfectly. Now we can’t even imagine any other person in that role. She will now be playing the lead in a short film Hello, Muscles.
The short film will also feature Outlander star Richard Rankin. The film, Hello, Muscles is about a young girl, on the cusp of secondary school. She is coming to terms with her role as a young carer.
The mission of the film is to raise awareness, spark conversation and dispel the stigma surrounding young carers. By giving a human voice to their role and exploring what it feels for a young person to care for a loved one.
The film will be donated to a young carers charity for use as an educational tool. Encouraging young carers to come forward to receive support as well as reminding teachers to seek out unidentified young carers.
Hello, Muscles is currently in pre-production and is being made in solidarity with young carers. With the support of a range of organisations, including The Carers Trust, Young Carers Club, The Children’s Society and NHS England.
A prequel play to Game of Thrones is in talks, and hopefully, we’ll see a younger Lysa Arryn coming to life. What do you think of the short feature? Tell us in the comments below!
Game of Thrones had a long list of lost/underused characters. Fans have often wondered what happened to them, as the books aren’t complete yet. One of them was Michiel Huisman’s Daario Naharis. The handsome lover of Daenerys was last seen in the episode ‘The Winds of Winter’. Daenerys left her brave confidante in Meereen to maintain peace. Even the actor along with the fans waited till the last season for the character to return. Well, we didn’t get to see Daario again, but we can see Huisman return to the silver screen. Michiel Huisman is back with Apple’s action-thriller series Echo 3.
Huisman will join previously announced cast member Luke Evans in the upcoming series. Echo 3 follows Amber Chesborough, a brilliant young scientist, who is the emotional centre of a small American family. When she goes missing along the Colombia-Venezuela border, her brother (Evans) and her husband, Prince (Huisman) — two men with deep military experience and complicated pasts — struggle to find her against the explosive backdrop of a secret war.
Echo 3 will be shot in both English and Spanish and has been given a 10-episode order. It is based on the Keshet Broadcasting series ‘When Heroes Fly’ created by Omri Givon and inspired by the eponymous novel by Amir Gutfreund. Mark Boal created the series and will serve as executive producer and showrunner. The series will be produced by Keshet Studios, with Keshet Studios’ Peter Traugott serving as executive producer.

Game of Thrones boasted a host of highly talented actors on its roster. Veteran actor Sean Bean was one of the big names who starred in the fantasy epic. His character, Ned Stark, was a fan-favourite character in the first season. However, he met the same fate Sean Bean’s roles are notoriously famous for; he couldn’t last for more than one season. Bean and Line of Duty’s Stephen Graham star opposite each other in Time, a prison drama from Cracker writer Jimmy McGovern, coming to BBC One from Sunday, 6 June.
The description of the show provided by BBC says, “Mark Cobden (Sean Bean) is newly imprisoned, consumed by guilt for his crime, and way out of his depth in the volatile world of prison life. He meets Eric McNally (Stephen Graham), an excellent prison officer doing his best to protect those in his charge.”
“However, when one of the most dangerous inmates identifies his weakness, Eric faces an impossible choice; between his principles and his family.”
The three-part drama begins on BBC One on Sunday, 6 June at 9:00pm. Sean is currently starring in the sci-fi thriller Snowpiercer. And he was actually worried he would be killed off on-screen again. Let’s hope he doesn’t get killed off in Time just like most of his on-screen characters.
