Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen is one of the gray personalities in the Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon. Rhaenyra’s affection and concern for her children is one of the many redeeming qualities in Emma D’Arcy‘s portrayal of her. That’s one of the reasons the Season 1 conclusion of House of the Dragon was so heartbreaking. Now, with Season 2 here, we got to see a few more heartbreaking moments with Rhaenyra in the premiere, as she discovers Lucerys’ remains found by the fisher folk.

Rhaenyra’s heart-wrenching breakdown, and a teary reunion with Lucerys

Rhaenrya is seen grieving on the shore as she finds Lucerys’ remains along with his dragon’s wing, giving her a moment of closure.

As previously teased by showrunner Ryan Condal, at the end of the first episode, Rhaenyra returns from her quest at Storm’s End after finding Luke and Arrax’s remains. She has cleaned up and composed herself and is grieving in her bedroom when Jacaerys, who has flown in from the North, returns to try and report to his mother. They cry and give each other a very touching embrace.
