“I don’t think Alicent did a very good job”: Even Ewan Mitchell (Aemond) accepts Rhaenyra is the better mom

One of the gray figures in the prequel to Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon, is Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen. One of Rhaenyra’s many redeeming qualities, as portrayed by Emma D’Arcy, is her love and concern for her children. That’s one of the reasons the Season 1 conclusion of House of the Dragon was so heartbreaking. Even Ewan Mitchell, who plays Aemond, knows that Rhaenyra raised her kids right.

Ewan Mitchell would want Rhaenyra as his mom

Ever since House of the Dragon began production, fans have been comparing Alicent and Rhaenyra on several different parameters. One of the hotly debated ones is their abilities as a mother. When asked who would they prefer as their mom in real life in an interview with IGV, Mitchell replied:

“I don’t think Alicent did a very good job. I will put my arms up and say… I’d say Rhaenyra. She seems like a good mom; a compassionate mom who raises their kid right”.

Tom Glynn-Carney accepted Rhaenyra is “pretty f*cking cool”

The House of the Dragon cast is split on who should lead the Seven Kingdoms, much like the fandom. Unexpectedly, Tommy Glynn-Carney, who plays Aegon, is the one who justifies Rhaenyra’s claim to the throne, citing her “pretty f*ckin cool person” and “good heart.” While Pheobe Campbell and Steve Toussaint provide their opinions, Fabien Frankel and Emma D’Arcy provide a more strategic response.
