George R.R. Martin once reviewed the Three Body Problem novels, he “liked it” but didn’t love it
Renowned for his diverse literary endeavors, George R. R. Martin is a multi-talented individual. His greatest work, the A Song of Ice and Fire series, served as the model for the enormously successful Game of Thrones television series. The showrunners behind the series are now working on another novel adaptation, Liu Cixin‘s The Three Body Problem. Martin once expressed his opinions on the books.
George R. R. Martin gives his honest opinions on Three Body Problem
Martin has often been called the modern-day Tolkien. He is a sucker for details, and likes the stuff he reads nicely laid out. Martin talked about the book on his LiveJournal account, where he mostly gave it credit for successfully fusing genre with historical context—including the Chinese Cultural Revolution and its aftermath.
Wenjie, according to Martin, is a “fascinating and complex creation,” while some of the other characters lacked depth. In the end, he said that the book “sagged in the middle” before picking back up, and he didn’t know it was a series, but he was going to keep reading it since he thought it was so intriguing.
How different is the 3 Body Problem from Game of Thrones
Martin also gave a deep analysis of the 3 Body Problem. He went on to compare the series with his own, A Song of Ice and Fire. He wrote:
“Both series’ have a flawed female protagonist at their heart, whose decisions create polarizing images of her values to those around them and largely affect the decisions of others due to her uncompromising views.”
