Game of Thrones showrunners reveal the only thing they would change about the series
Game of Thrones serves as a strong reminder of how a masterpiece show was run to the ground by a series of bad decisions. The final season was criticized by fans for a number of reasons, the blame mostly falling on the showrunners David Benioff and D. B. Weiss. Fans have cited quite several storylines they’d like to change, and the showrunners do too, but not the one you might think.
The only change Game of Thrones showrunners wanted in the series
Though there are probably dozens of story changes fans could think that might seem necessary, Benioff and Weiss would say otherwise. However, they did admit in an interview with THR that they wanted to change one thing.
Benioff revealed, “One thing I know I wish we could have done is there’s the character Mord the Jailer.”
Weiss chimed in, “It was a mistake not bringing Mord the Jailer back into it. We always talked about doing it.”
Mord was the jailer of the Sky Cells at Vale, where Tyrion was held after Catelyn Stark got him captured. Out of all the numerous sidelined storylines, fans could’ve never guessed that one!
Game of Thrones showrunners refused production credits for spinoffs
Benioff and Weiss are still suffering from the wounds caused by the backlash they got for the contentious finale. They disclosed that they had made the decision to forego receiving credit for any further Game of Thrones ventures. Benioff recalled, “HBO was kind of confused. I remember their lawyer saying, ‘But it’s just money, we’re just going to pay you.’ ”

“I don’t think there is such a thing as free money. For us, if our name is on it, especially that, while being completely detached and uninvolved, it felt like the strain that would come with that hands-off approach — with its success or failure or anything in between — was not worth it” , added Weiss.
