George R. R. Martin is hopeful that ‘shelved’ Game of Thrones spinoffs might get presented someday

HBO’s highest priority project at the moment is House of the Dragon. However, the Targaryen civil war was not the only notion being developed. While some are at different stages of development, others are no longer in production. The most recent to be confirmed was a prequel series based on George R. R. Martin‘s Dunk & Egg books. Martin hasn’t given up on the scraped-off ideas just yet.

George R. R. Martin believes canceled Game of Thrones spinoffs deserve a chance

A number of Game of Thrones spinoff shows are currently in development at HBO, but a lot more have been canceled. Martin wrote on his blog Not A Blog, “Those of you who have read my reports in years past may recall that I prefer to say “shelved” rather than “killed,” as nothing is ever dead for good in Hollywood, and a project put on the shelf one year can be taken off the shelf a few years later). (I still have hopes of presenting the stories that we shelved in another form, perhaps as graphic novels).”

George R. R. Martin loves Blue Eye Samurai

Martin is in awe of a Netflix animated show, which might remind you of Game of Thrones in more ways than one. He wrote, “BLUE EYE SAMURAI has the most gorgeous art that I have ever seen. The story is terrific as well. Set in Japan during the Edo period, it is violent, visceral, sexy (and more than a little kinky in spots), with amazing action sequences and a cast of well-developed characters, colorful and complex and real. Flawed heroes, villains who are more than cartoons (though they are cartoons, being drawn, after all).
