Game of Thrones prequel House of The Dragon is currently in the pre-production phase, and the actors are gearing up for season 2. Ewan Mitchell’s Aemond Targaryen will play a significant role in the upcoming civil war, flying around on the biggest dragon in Westeros at the time. Aemond is a very unique, and at times terrifying character. And Mitchell took inspiration from a lot of different sources to add that unique flair to his role.

Who inspired Mitchell’s impersonation of Aemond?

Speaking to The Face, Mitchell revealed, “For Aemond’s walk, there was something I found interesting about Eighties horror icons. No matter how slow they walk, they always catch up with Jamie Lee Curtis. There’s something in the physicality of [Elm Street’s] Freddy [Krueger], [Jamie Lee’s Halloween nemesis] Michael Myers, [the Creeper in] Jeepers Creepers.” Aemond pays tribute to those boogey-men of old by wearing “a big, long duster coat.”

“And Shakespeare, he said that the eyes are the windows to the soul. So what does that mean to only have one of them? How do you compensate? Is it through physicality? Aemond’s such a boiling pot of emotions anyway, that just because he’s smiling doesn’t mean he’s happy. He’s ready to go at any minute.”

What’s next for Ewan Mitchell in House of The Dragon?

Aemond has a bigger role to play in Season 2, after inadvertently starting the civil war in the previous season. House of The Dragon showrunner Ryan Condal hints at that by saying, “Ewan has lots of work coming his way in series two.” Ewan teased the fans and said, “Stay tuned. The best is yet to come.”

When will House of The Dragon return?

The filming of House of The Dragon season 2 is currently in pre-production, with several scripts being rewritten by George R. R. Martin. HBO chief Casey Bloys has confirmed in an indirect way that House of The Dragon won’t be coming back before the summer of 2024.
