George R.R. Martin wanted Game of Thrones to have at least 10 seasons: “Maybe even 12, 13”
The tale of the Game of Thrones season 8 controversy still lives fresh in the minds of the die-hard fans. It has been three years since HBO’s money-making mint wrapped up filming, but people can’t stop talking about it. After all, the highly popular and record-breaking show divided its fandom with a controversial and a rather rushed-up final season. Not just the fans, but the cast of the series is split up upon the same issue. Game of Thrones progenitor George R. R. Martin has repeatedly focused on how much his contribution was lowered in the series, and he has once again opened up about the issue.
Talking to The Wall Street Journal, Martin revealed he had different plans for Game of Thrones. He fought the producers’ decision to close the series at Season 8. He said, “I was saying it needs to be 10 seasons at least and maybe 12, 13. I lost that one.”
Martin had earlier revealed that he once flew to New York to beg the HBO execs not to limit the show to 8 seasons. He also confessed he got less and less involved with what was happening on the set. “I had no contribution to the later seasons except, you know, inventing the world, the story and all the characters,” Martin said. “I believe I have more influence now than I did on the original show.”
