Game of Thrones is a show in which even the smallest things mean quite a lot. Fans constantly come up with things that have clearly foreshadowed events that have come to happen on the show, and that element is magnified when it comes to the books.
We saw in the Season 7 finale ‘The Dragon and the Wolf’, that Jon Snow is not only the son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark, but a legitimate Targaryen. His actual name was revealed to be Aegon Targaryen, and now the fans are saying that George R. R. Martin, the author of the books, has been hinting at Jon’s true name for years. Read on!
Game of Thrones fans have dug up two instances from the books which now look like they were foreshadowing Jon’s true name. First one is the conversation that Jon had with Maester Aemon Targaryen, of the Night’s Watch, who talked to him while on his deathbed, about his elder brother, Aegon V Targaryen, who is actually Jon Snow’s great-great-grandfather. It’s a famous conversation. Read the Reddit post by JordeyShore below :
Now that we know what we know, we can’t see this as a hint. The second instance is about Daenerys Targaryen, and specifically, the vision she had in the House of the Undying. The vision showed Rhaegar and a woman and child whose identity isn’t known. Read the Reddit post by alexdas96 below :
Now, there is one problem. The books have said that Rhaegar’s son with Elia Martell was named Aegon too, but we all know that The Mountain raped and murdered Elia, and killed her children. In the books there is a character called Young Griff, who claims to be this Aegon, and says that he survived thanks to Lord Varys, who switched him with another baby before The Mountain got to him. He is thought to be fake, thus referred to as fAegon by the fans.
There are certain things which make it look like fAegon could be a Targaryen, and that could fulfil the whole “The Dragon has three heads” thing. However, in the show, there doesn’t seem to be any time to introduce that story arc, so we think maybe Daenerys and Jon’s child could be the third dragon. What do you think about this?
