Game of Thrones nominated for sound mixing and visual effects awards
Awards season is gaining pace as we enter the new year and Game of Thrones is doing great. The latest nominations for the show come for sound mixing and visual effects from the Cinema Audio Society (CAS) and the Visual Effects Society (VES). Read on!
The Cinema Audio Society recently revealed the nominees for the 54th Annual CAS Awards, and Game of Thrones has a nomination in Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing for 2017 category, in the one hour category. The episode nominated is “Beyond the Wall.” Team members include Ronan Hill (brother to Conleth Hill, who plays the role of Lord Varys), Richard Dyer, Onnalee Blank, Mathew Waters, and Brett Voss. They will compete against teams from Better Call Saul, Stranger Things, The Crown, and The Handmaid’s Tale. Winners will be announced on February 24.
Also announced recently are the nominations for Visual Effects Society Nominations, listed out in a post by Variety. Game of Thrones is headlining the line-up, with 11 nominations in 5 categories. One nomination in the Outstanding Visual Effects in a Photoreal Episode category, for “Beyond the Wall,” three nominations in the Outstanding Animated Character in an Episode or Real-Time Project, for the undead Polar bear in “Beyond the Wall,” the Jon-Drogon meeting in “Eastwatch,” and the Drogon loot train attack in “The Spoils of War“, Two nominations in the Outstanding Created Environment in an Episode, Commercial, or Real-Time Project category, for the frozen lake in “Beyond the Wall” and “Eastwatch” getting nominated for its namesake.
The frozen lake is also nominated in the Outstanding Effects Simulations in an Episode, Commercial, or Real-Time Project, and the other nomination in the category is the destruction of the Wall in “The Dragon and the Wolf.” Lastly, Game of Thrones bagged three nominations in the Outstanding Compositing in a Photoreal Episode, starting with, again, the Frozen lake in “Beyond the Wall,” “Eastwatch,” and the loot train attack in “The Spoils of War.” Winners will be announced on February 13.
