Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner talks about the possibility of returning to the X-Men universe
There has been so much content out there lately, especially since the arrival of the digital streaming platforms, that it’s become really hard to catch up on everything. Still, most people have their favorites that they follow. The Game of Thrones cast has done some amazing work since the show wrapped up. Sophie Turner’s (Sansa Stark) stint as Jean Grey in the X-Men film series was great. She did two films in the mutant universe, and one wonders if anything more could be expected. Sophie talked about the possibility of going back to the franchise in a Zoom chat with Variety.
When she was asked if she saw herself moving back into the X-Men universe, Sophie said, “I don’t even know what the deal is; whether Disney wants to continue on the X-Men journey!” Starting with X-Men: Apocalypse in 2016, Turner came back as Jean Grey in X-Men: Dark Phoenix last year. It was supposedly the last movie in the current X-Men storyline that began in 2011 with X-Men: First Class.
Sophie’s thoughts on the matter of a possible return were clear. “I would always be down to go back to that character, and that cast, and that experience…We had just the best time on those movies. I would kill to go back!” she exclaimed.
Dark Phoenix was a box office failure which was mainly, as critics suggested, due to a poor narrative. Though another reason that’s cited by many is the Disney-Fox deal, which resulted in Disney taking over Fox and its properties. This perhaps shifted focus from the running story to the future of X-Men in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) or some other direction.
Any which way, the future of X-Men is pretty uncertain at the moment, and that of its cast, even more. We still hope that Sophie gets another chance in the mutant realm in the future. A girl does better with second chances!
