George RR Martin’s cameo appearance in the unaired Game Of Thrones pilot revealed
George RR Martin had done a cameo in the pilot, playing a Pentoshi merchant.
Many creative and intelligent minds are involved in the making of Game of Thrones and we can imagine how much effort the showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss would have put in making the series a big success. Still, everything pales in comparison with the role of George RR Martin’s imaginative mind in creating the fictional world of Ice and Fire and that’s not it. He too had a role to play in the show. Read on.
Talking about the unaired pilot, it had wide differences in the storyline from the aired pilot episode of the First Season – ‘Winter is Coming’. Even many actors were re-casted for the series. For instance, Emilia Clarke replaced Tamzin Merchant who was supposed to play the role of Daenerys Targaryen. The pilot never got approved it as it had many flaws. A couple of years ago, talking about the rejection, Dan Weiss had revealed:
“Watching them watch that original pilot was one of the most painful experiences of my life…As soon as it finished, Craig Mazin [HBO] said, ‘You guys have a massive problem.’”
Getting back to the topic, George RR Martin had done a cameo in the pilot, playing a Pentoshi merchant. There he had to wear a big hat and appeared in an attire similar to the one Illyrio Mopatis wore. The image of George from the pilot caught the attention of Elio M. García Jr. and Linda Antonsson who were present at the recent Winterfell Festival. They shared the image on their Twitter account. Just take a look!
We hope we get to see another cameo of George (probably as an older Samwell Tarly completing his book ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’) in the final season – which many fans expect. Also, we really appreciate the efforts of the entire Game of Thrones team, who presented this epic series to us with such perfection!
