Lord Boremund Baratheon is the ruler of Storm’s End and head of House Baratheon. He is the father of Borros Baratheon. He supports the claim of his cousin, Princess Rhaenys Targaryen, as the rightful queen of the Seven Kingdoms.
Boremund competes in the Heir’s Tournament, requesting the favor of Rhaenys, whom he refers to as “The Queen Who Never Was.” His public recognition of Rhaenys’s claim to the throne draws the ire of Otto Hightower. Despite Otto’s suggestion to punish Boremund, King Viserys dismisses the matter. During the jousts, Boremund and his son Borros are both unhorsed by Ser Criston Cole.
He attends the funeral of Aemma Arryn and Baelon Targaryen. When Rhaenyra Targaryen is declared Princess of Dragonstone, Boremund kneels and swears allegiance, although his reluctance is evident.
Boremund hosts Rhaenyra at Storm’s End during her search for a suitor. He rebukes her for her sarcastic remarks about Beric Dondarrion’s age. Tensions escalate further when a duel breaks out between Jerrel Bracken and Willem Blackwood. This leads Rhaenyra to cut her visit short and leave Storm’s End prematurely.
Death and Succession
Lord Boremund dies between 116 AC and 132 AC, though the exact date of his death is not recorded. Following his death, his son Borros Baratheon assumes the lordship of Storm’s End.

The Early Life of Lord Boremund Baratheon
Boremund Baratheon was the only child of Lord Rogar Baratheon and Dowager Queen Alyssa Velaryon. Alyssa announced her pregnancy at age forty-four, surprising many. People believed her age made childbirth impossible. Boremund’s birth in early 52 AC was declared a miracle, even blessed by the High Septon.
Boremund’s father, Rogar, gave him his name. However, Alyssa’s health suffered after his birth. She tragically died two years later while giving birth to Boremund’s sister, Jocelyn. This loss deeply impacted the family.
In 58 AC, young Boremund attended a grand tourney in King’s Landing with his father and sister. The event celebrated King Jaehaerys I’s tenth coronation anniversary. In 59 AC, both Boremund and Jocelyn contracted the Shivers, a widespread illness. Fortunately, they recovered.
Boremund’s birth created tension between Rogar Baratheon and his brother, Ser Borys. Rogar’s declining health and Borys’s bitterness led to the latter allying with the Vulture King. By 61 AC, fearing for Boremund’s safety, Rogar sought protection from King Jaehaerys I. Boremund’s sister and cousins became wards in King’s Landing.
Rogar Baratheon died after defeating the Vulture King and Borys during the Third Dornish War. Boremund stayed by his father’s side at Storm’s End until his final moments. These early experiences shaped Boremund’s character and loyalty to his family.

Lord Boremund Baratheon as the Lord of Storm’s End
Boremund inherited the titles of Lord of Storm’s End and Lord Paramount of the Stormlands after Rogar’s death. Due to his youth, his uncle Ser Garon acted as his regent and guardian. In 73 AC, Boremund fostered the family of disgraced Kingsguard knight Ser Lucamore Strong at Storm’s End.
In 80 AC, Queen Alysanne Targaryen suggested Boremund as a suitor for Princess Daella Targaryen. She valued his wealth and status. However, Daella chose Lord Rodrik Arryn, despite her good relationship with Boremund’s sister, Jocelyn.
In 83 AC, Prince Morion Martell of Dorne threatened the Stormlands with an invasion. Boremund prepared his forces at Cape Wrath. The dragons of King Jaehaerys and his sons destroyed the Dornish fleet before it reached the shore.
Boremund also joined forces with Lord Cameron Tarth in 92 AC to defend against Myrish pirates. These events solidified his reputation as a capable and loyal leader in the Stormlands.
The death of Prince Aemon Targaryen caused a succession crisis. King Jaehaerys I named Prince Baelon his heir, upsetting Boremund and Jocelyn. After Baelon’s death in 101 AC, the Great Council chose Viserys Targaryen over Princess Rhaenys and her son Laenor. This decision angered Boremund, who had supported Rhaenys’s claim.

The Death and Legacy of Boremund Baratheon
Boremund Baratheon died during the reign of King Viserys I. His son, Borros Baratheon, inherited his titles and became Lord of Storm’s End. Borros fathered four granddaughters and one grandson, ensuring the family’s legacy continued.
After King Viserys’s death, the realm descended into the Dance of the Dragons. Many believed Borros would support Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen, as Boremund had supported Rhaenys and Laenor. However, Borros chose to side with King Aegon II Targaryen, citing his preference for a male heir.
Borros claimed Rhaenyra assumed House Baratheon’s loyalty without cause. He felt House Targaryen had looked down on House Baratheon, further straining their alliance. His decision to support Aegon marked a significant shift from Boremund’s steadfast loyalty to the Targaryens.
Prince Aemond Targaryen offered to marry one of Borros’s daughters in exchange for support. When Prince Lucerys Velaryon arrived with no offers, Borros dismissed him. Borros’s decision set the stage for the Battle Above Shipbreaker Bay, a key event in the Dance of the Dragons.
Quotes
Boremund: “Princess Rhaenys Targaryen! I would humbly ask for the favor of the Queen Who Never Was.”
Rhaenys: “Good fortune to you, cousin.”
Boremund: “I would gladly take it if I thought I needed it.”
