Jason Lannister during the Dance of the Dragons
Allegiance
During the Dance of the Dragons, Jason supported Aegon II Targaryen. The Lannisters allied with the Greens since Jason’s twin, Tyland Lannister, sat on the Small Council. Tyland had also been part of Alicent and Otto Hightower’s scheme to install Aegon on the throne.
Military Strength and Strategy
Lord Jason gathered a formidable force of a thousand knights, seven thousand archers, and men-at-arms. Prince Aemond Targaryen had Jason and his host descend upon the Riverlands from the Red Fork of the Trident. In House of the Dragon Season 2, we saw Lord Jason amassing with his forces at the Golden Tooth.
The Battle at the Red Fork
This battle took place later in the war and has not yet occurred in House of the Dragon. In the Battle at the Red Fork, the Riverlords who supported the Blacks rushed to meet the Lannister host in combat.
The Lannisters tried to cross the Fork three times, but the Blacks turned them back each time. In the third attempt, Lord Jason was mortally wounded by Pate of Longleaf, a grizzled squire.

Immediate Aftermath
While Jason died of his wounds, Ser Adrian Tarbeck took command of the western host and shattered the army of the Riverlords. Lord Jason’s death left Casterly Rock in disarray.
Lord Petyr Piper knighted Pate of Longleaf, who killed Lord Jason. He dubbed him “Longleaf the Lionslayer.”
Legacy
Jason’s young son, Loreon, succeeded him as Lord of Casterly Rock. Jason’s widow, Lady Johanna Lannister, defended the westerlands from the Red Kraken, Lord Dalton Greyjoy.
With most of the Lannister strength in the Riverlands, the westerlands were vulnerable to attack. Johanna Lannister managed to hold off the ironborn for a long time.
