Top 10 most shocking deaths on Game of Thrones, according to fans

Game of Thrones was famous for showcasing some of the most shocking and gruesome deaths in television history. George R. R. Martin’s infamous style of killing off fan favourite characters is a defining characteristic of the show. Over the course of its decade-long run, there were many jaw-dropping death scenes that shook the audience to their core. In April this year, HBO celebrated the Iron Anniversary on account of its 10-year completion. They asked the fans to vote for the most shocking deaths on the show.

More than 33,000 fans voted on the occasion, and the final results are here as follows:

10. Walder Frey (Season 6, Episode 10)

Walder Frey’s involvement in the Red Wedding made him one of the most hated characters on Game of Thrones. Fans were amazed when Arya Stark used her face-swapping skills to deliver poetic justice to the one who betrayed her family.

9. Ramsay Bolton (Season 6, Episode 9)

One of the most satisfying killing scenes in the entire series, Ramsay Bolton’s death almost made the audience cheer for the Starks. Jon Snow defeats Bolton and his army with the help of wildlings and Knights of Vale, and Sansa rightly delivers him to the hounds who once fed on his victims.

8. Viserion (Season 7, Episode 6)

Daenerys‘ rescue attempt results in the death of one of her ‘children’. Viserion is killed by a well-aimed javelin thrown by the Night King, resulting in an instant death.

7. Littlefinger (Season 7, Episode 7)

In a shocking turn of events, Petyr Baelish “Littlefinger” loses at his own game of cunning, when Arya Stark tricks him into believing he can create a rift between the Stark sisters.

6. Joffrey Baratheon (Season 4, Episode 2)

Another one of the most satisfying deaths on the show, Joffrey Baratheon, one of the most hated characters on the show, choked on his own blood and died horribly after being poisoned by Olenna Tyrell.

5. Jon Snow (Season 5, Episode 10)

Fans cried when the show’s poster boy was stabbed to death by his brothers of the Night’s Watch. Luckily Jon was resurrected by Melisandre in the next episode.

4. Ned Stark (Season 1, Episode 9)

The first death on the show that moved the viewers by large, many fans were hoping that the honourable Warden of the North would somehow escape his execution.

3. Hodor (Season 6, Episode 5)

One of the most loving characters in television history, Hodor’s secret and his demise made even the toughest of fans cry out rivers. He dies heroically trying to save Bran Stark from the undead.

2. Oberyn Martell (Season 4, Episode 8)

Oberyn Martell became a fan favourite in a really short time, but Pedro Pascal’s charm wasn’t enough to keep him alive. He was crushed to death by the huge monstrosity known as the Mountain.

1. The Red Wedding (Season 3, Episode 9)

There’s no denying the Red Wedding is the most terrifying death scene ever filmed in all of television history. The brutal execution of the Starks and their supporters by the Freys and Boltons left fans worldwide in utter shock.

Video games and the film/TV industry often walk hand-in-hand. And Game of Thrones is no exception. We often find it being referenced in other shows, movies, political speeches, sports etc. As a pop culture icon, the show has also found its way into the world of video games. We already know of a few games that are directly based on Game of Thrones. And fans of the TV series often find a way to recreate their favourite moments or characters in other games. Recently a Game of Thrones fan created the Night King from Game of Thrones in Dreams video game.

Media Molecule’s extremely unique title, Dreams, has allowed fans to create a huge variety of content, with its easy to use accessibility allowing PlayStation owners to show off their creative muscles. Players can make whatever they can imagine in Dreams, with the potential for entire games to be developed, with full cut scenes, dialogue, and music.

One such Dreams player, known as GENIXTHESAIYAN on Reddit, has posted up an impressive model of the Night King from HBO’s Game of Thrones. While the sculpt is noted to be an early representation of Genix’s work, it already bears an incredible likeness to the icy antagonist, capturing his glowing blue eyes and frozen visage with aplomb.

Life is a strange journey. No one knows what might happen in near future. We often see people throw away their precious lives over trivial matters. While there are others who are struggling to stay alive, fighting back no matter what. Such people are an inspiration. Jason Momoa, famous for his amazing roles such as Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones and the superhero Aquaman, acknowledged one such young warrior last year. The actor was left heartbroken after the child recently passed away due to brain cancer.

Momoa is dedicating “Aquaman 2” to an 8-year-old superfan who died after a battle with a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer. The young boy, Danny Sheehan, went viral last year in a video that showed him ecstatically opening an Aquaman toy – so much so that he caught the attention of the superhero himself.

All my Aloha to this beautiful Ohana,” Momoa wrote. “Love u baby boy rest in piece You will live in my heart.” The actor then dedicated Aquaman 2 to the “lil angel.”

In December, Momoa surprised Sheehan with a FaceTime call and promised to ride dolphins with him someday. “Hi beautiful boy,” Momoa said to Sheehan, who replied, “Hi Aquaman. I’m so excited.” Momoa also gifted his trident from the movie to Sheehan for being so brave.

We hope that Sheehan’s family somehow find the courage and strength to get through the terrible loss. Please send your prayers and well wishes to the family in the comments below.

Game of Thrones was definitely the biggest TV show of the 21’st century. Very few shows come even close to the epic fantasy in terms of budget, cinematography, popularity, viewership, and the number of awards won. Game of Thrones still holds the record for the most number of Emmy Awards won to date.  No wonder it is still the hot topic of conversation over various social media platforms. Recently, Game of Thrones was trending on Twitter after a certain post was made by the website LADbible. And Game of Thrones fans didn’t shy away from showering their love for the fantasy epic.

A few days ago, LADbible tweeted out one of those “choose three of these things and the rest go away” posts – and this time fans had to select from their favorite TV shows. The Tweet quickly went viral, as the list included nine shows to choose from – The Sopranos, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, The Wire, Boardwalk Empire, Ozark, Prison Break, Sons of Anarchy, and Breaking Bad. Quite surprisingly, even after a controversial final season, many fans came forward to save Game of Thrones from the list.

You can only save three of these shows.

The rest are deleted from history.

Which are you saving?

If no one talks about Game of Thrones, why does everyone tweet about Game of Thrones? 🤔

— Ashley (@AshWHurst) August 26, 2021

Loads of people now going ‘game of thrones was crap’ and somehow forgetting how it took over their lives for 7 years

We can clearly see that fans are still talking about Game of Thrones, which actually ensures a bright future for its upcoming prequel House of The Dragon. Hopefully, it will take off as gracefully as Game of Thrones did and satisfy the demands of the faithful fanbase. Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below!
