The Last of Us creator explains why the show has fewer action scenes than the game
HBO’s The Last of Us is its new record-breaking steamroller; surpassing television ratings and viewership records with every new episode. The critics and the viewers are highly impressed by the quality of sceneries, storylines, costumes, and zombie makeup, however, the series has also faced its fair share of criticism. One of them being the show’s lack of action when compared to the video game.
Why does The Last of Us have less action when compared to the video game?
The game’s creator and showrunner Neil Druckmann recently talked about the criteria they used to remove a scene from the storyline in a press conference. He said, “We took a very high-level approach and looked at just the action across the board. Every piece of action, if you look at the show, has to move character in some way. If it doesn’t move character and it was only there for spectacle, then it was an easy cut for us.”
Will there be more infected running around in The Last of Us Season 2?
Mazin continued at the conference, “So we did at times have choices to make about how we wanted to present the infected. Even though we were green lit for a season of television, Neil and I felt like we can’t just make a season of television without considering what would come after. There is more The Last of Us to come. I think the balance is not always just about within an episode or even episode to episode, but season to season. It’s quite possible that there will be a lot more infected later and perhaps different kinds.”
What can we expect from The Last of Us Season 2?
Showrunner Craig Mazin teased the reporters about what’s to come in Season 2, “Sometimes it will be different radically and sometimes it will be barely different at all, but it’s going to be different and it will be its own thing. It won’t be exactly like the game. It will be the show that Neil and I want to make. We are making it with Bella.”
