Since the beginning of the show, House of the Dragon, King Viserys’ health had been steadily worsening, up until his death in episode 8. He ends up losing an arm, an eye, and half of his face in a bid to stop what is affecting him from spreading further. So far, nothing has been confirmed by the show or the showrunners. However, we do know his condition only worsened due to the woes of his own family, which he tries to resolve one last time before his death in the eighth episode.

In a new behind-the-scenes clip from House of The Dragon episode 8, here’s what the cast and the crew said about King Viserys’ last supper:

House of the Dragon | S1 EP8: Inside the Episode (HBO)

Emma D’Arcy: Viserys, after the petitions, demands that there is a family dinner and that we all sit and eat together.

Miguel Sapochnik: It’s the Last Supper, Viserys’ last stand. It’s the father and daughter story finding some sort of resolution and closure. Unexpectedly, there’s a brief moment of, “Oh, maybe things are gonna be okay.”

D’Arcy: One of the issues with his leadership throughout the series is a refusal to step up and intervene. To speak with clarity and lay down the law. And stand by the choices he makes. For the first time, certainly, in Rhaenyra’s life, she really watches him do it.

Paddy Considine: It’s like all this corruption and all this fighting, this is what it does. This is what being a king does. This is the effect of all of this on me. Why can’t we just love each other? Why can’t we just make it work?
