‘Targaryen Civil War’ searches increase by 400% in anticipation of House of The Dragon

Game of Thrones prequel House of The Dragon is one of the most highly anticipated shows of 2022. The premiere is right around the corner, and HBO has already dropped the full official trailer that was praised by fans and critics alike. The main storyline will be revolving around the show’s two female lead characters, Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and Queen Alicent Hightower, both of whom desire to sit on the Iron Throne. House of The Dragon is a hot topic amongst fantasy lovers right now, which is reflected in popular search terms that have been frequently looked up on Google.

According to the data on Google Trends, the following search terms related to the Game of Thrones prequel have witnessed a surge in the past month in the US:

  • “Targaryen civil war” up by 400%
  • “House Targaryen family tree” up by 1250%
  • “Targaryen sigil” increased by over 100%
  • “When does House of the Dragon take place” up by 350%
  • “Rhaenyra Targaryen relation to Daenerys” increased by 450%

There were some other interesting observations as well in relation to Game of Thrones-related search terms on Google. For instance, since 2004, Dothraki is the 3rd most searched fictional language in the US. Some more data referring to the same time period also shows House Targaryen is the most searched Game of Thrones house in every state, whereas Daenerys Targaryen is the most searched Game of Thrones character for the same.
