Sophie Turner talks about Sansa’s role in Game Of Thrones Season 8 and more at New York Comic Con
October 9th, 2:44am October 9th, 2:44am Abhinav Pathak22, Game of Thrones geek, Passionate Fiction Writer and the author of ‘Gopalkant’s Wife’.
Sansa Stark turned out to be one of the key players of the game in the series after she had Petyr ‘Littlefinger’ Baelish executed for treason. For me, she is the true Lady of Winterfell who has learned harsh lessons in life like her sister Arya Stark over the years. Sophie Turner, who portrays the role, was present at this year’s New York Comic Con, where she talked about the final season. Read on.
Upon being asked what’s next in line for Sansa in the final season, Sophie told the Vulture:
“I know I say this every season, but Sansa really comes into her own this season…The past few seasons for her and the whole series for her, she’s kind of been somewhat lost as a matter of where she wants to be, who she wants to be, who she wants to surround herself with, and this season she is very very self-assured”
“She knows what she wants. She knows what she stands for. She knows who she wants to be around, and she faces threats to that this season. But, well, we’ll see how that goes.”
We all are aware of the major leaks last year and that HBO this year is making all its efforts to maintain the secrecy of the final season of Game of Thrones. Talking about the same, Sophie said:
“The secrecy is crazy…We have a whole different name for [the season] when we’re shooting it. I think this season it was like the Tree of Life or something.”
Like the other cast members, Sophie also revealed that the team had a special “drone killer” to get rid of paparazzi and drone cameras. Next, talking about the kind of efforts the team was making to ensure full security, Sophie revealed the filming of fake scenes, much like the last year. She said:
“Also, we shoot fake scenes. We got into costume in Croatia because we know the paparazzi lurk around there, so we would spend like half a day doing nothing.”
Like many other cast members recently talked about their final day of being on the set of Game off Thrones, Sophie too revealed to the Newsweek,
“It was very emotional…I was lucky that my last day was surrounded by a lot of the cast members. We’d been shooting the same scene for five days straight, so by the end of it I was like, ‘f*ck, I just want to finish.’ But it was highly emotional.”
Turner also added:
“What David and Dan do, they bring out a storyboard of their favorite scene for your character in all of the Game of Thrones, and they write this really long note on the back. I just bawled my eyes out. I couldn’t stop shaking and crying for hours”
“I still don’t really accept that it’s done. I think I won’t accept that it’s over until next year comes around and I’m not back in Belfast with my family. It’s weird.”
Sophie told the fans about the moment Sean Bean (Eddard Stark) had returned to the sets for a “behind the scenes thing”. She had burst into tears seeing him and said, “I wasn’t expecting that!” Finally, Sophie talked about her on-screen sister Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) the two of whom had auditioned for the series together. She said:
“We did a chemistry read together…It was the final three for Sansa, and I was like, F*ck, I really need to up my game. I went in, and was I like, What’s up?! I gave her a big hug. I was like high-five after every take. I was super extra, but it worked. I read with other Aryas before, but Maisie was special. We just got on like that.”
