Game of Thrones prequel House of The Dragon is currently in the pre-production phase, and the actors are gearing up for season 2. Ewan Mitchell’s Aemond Targaryen will play a significant role in the upcoming civil war, flying around on the biggest dragon in Westeros at the time. Aemond is a very unique, and at times terrifying character. Showrunner Ryan Condal recently talked about how Mitchell was during the audition process.

Why did Ryan Condal like Ewan Mitchell as Aemond?

In a recent interview with The Face, House of the Dragonshowrunner Ryan Condal recalled that he wanted to cast Mitchell as Aemond right from his first audition. “His presence – his walk, the way he took the room, the way he made eye contact with everybody,” he recalled. “It was actually quite off-putting because Ewan is a very committed actor. I don’t want to say he’s Method because I actually don’t know what his approach is. But he came into that room as Aemond! I just remember quietly saying to the casting director afterwards: ‘He’s fantastic, I have to have him… Is he always like that?’”

What’s next for Ewan Mitchell in House of The Dragon?

Aemond has a bigger role to play in Season 2, after inadvertently starting the civil war in the previous season. House of The Dragon showrunner Ryan Condal hints at that by saying, “Ewan has lots of work coming his way in series two.” Ewan teased the fans and said, “Stay tuned. The best is yet to come.”

When will House of The Dragon return?

The filming of House of The Dragon season 2 is currently in pre-production, with several scripts being rewritten by George R. R. Martin. HBO chief Casey Bloys has confirmed in an indirect way that House of The Dragon won’t be coming back before the summer of 2024.
