New fan theory explains Tyrion Lannister's true motives behind the mission beyond the Wall

Tyrion Lannister has been a charming, scheming man on Game of Thrones that fans have adored right from the beginning. All credit goes to his cleverness and effortless performance in the great game since season 1. However the moment Tyrion became Hand of the Queen to Daenerys, some of his clever schemes with ulterior motives have been missing. That might not be the case in season 7 after all. As a Redditor points out, Tyrion might be playing a bigger game by having Jon bring a Wight to King’s Landing in order to convince Cersei about the threat beyond the Wall. Here’s what the theory says:

Tyrion knows that Cersei is not likely to believe in the existence of the White Walkers and the army of the dead, even if she is presented with evidence. She already has zombie Mountain as her pet and Qyburn’s dragon killing machine — she is not going to feel in the least bit threatened. Tyrion knows that Cersei will be looking to humiliate Dany and make a show of her power, so is likely to have the masses in attendance to witness this.

Cersei has been getting drunk off the power of being THE Queen….Tyrion knows that the true way to seize power and then hold onto it is through the acceptance of the people….By bringing a Wight back to King’s landing and using Cersei’s own arrogance and bravado against her, Tyrion can simultaneously convince the people of the true threat to the realm, discrediting Cersei and highlighting her refusal to protect them, while also showing Dany to be the savior and true protector.

This might just be Tyrion’s plan of action and it is pretty convincing because the people of King’s Landing have bowed down to the same people they’ve thrown stones at. According to what Jaime said to Euron when he bragged about gaining the love of the masses,“This same mob spat at my sister not long ago.And if you turn on us, they’ll cheer to see your head mounted on a spike,”when he referred to Cersei’s walk of atonement, it wouldn’t be unbelievable for the people to turn on Cersei when they see her refusal to accept such a threat. They might just put their faith in Dany despite her being a ‘foreign invader with an army of savages at her back’.

Whether this theory is true will only be cleared up in the finale of season 7, The Dragon and the Wolf, which airs on HBO at 9pm this Sunday.
