Six-year-old girl denied passport for being named Khaleesi
There were many other parents who had to face a similar issue because they chose to name their daughter after Khaleesi.
Although Emilia Clarke admitted that Khaleesi is a beautiful name, fans who named their kids after that character were unhappy because of the final fate of Khaleesi. While that was five years ago, the controversy over the name refuses to die down. In a bizarre incident, a six-year-old girl was recently denied a passport because her name is Khaleesi.
Mother “devastated” because Khaleesi denied passport
Lucy, from South West England and mother of Khaleesi, told BBC that her daughter was denied a passport simply because Warner Brothers owns the trademark of the name and that she’d need approval from the company to permit her daughter the passport. The incident happened when the mother was planning her “dream” trip to Disneyland Paris with her daughter. “I was absolutely devastated, we were so looking forward to our first holiday together,” Lucy said.
Artist Eddie Mendoza brings us the landscapes and castles of Westeros as never seen before, with thirteen stunning illustrations, including a bonus fold-out poster.
The passport issuing authority was adamant on its decision, to the point where the mother had to seek legal advice from experts to learn that she violated no law by naming her daughter Khaleesi. She forwarded that information to the Passport Office and complained on social media. It took this much effort from the mother to make the Passport Office apologize to her and start processing little Khaleesi’s passport. “If I hadn’t posted this on social media, nothing would have been done. I would have been stuck, not knowing what to do,” she said.
Lucy isn’t the only one who faced the issue
When Lucy complained on social media, she heard similar stories coming from other parents who had to face the same hurdle because they named their kids after Khaleesi. But now that this incident is being widely reported, the Passport Office will hopefully do a better job by not rejecting applications simply because the name is from a famous movie or a TV show.
