Liam Cunningham talks about Game of Thrones Easter Eggs

Game of Thrones is a brilliant show, and a sneaky one. Over the years, the show has left a lot of clues and Easter eggs that some of the curious fans end up digging out. We are at a point where even things that aren’t even clues are seen as clues, and theories fly left and right.

In a recent interview with Huffington Post, one of our favorite Game of Thrones stars, Liam Cunningham, who plays the role of Ser Davos Seaworth on Game of Thrones, talked about Easter eggs, and more. Read on!

Now, as you know, Jon Snow‘s real name was revealed to be Aegon Targaryen at the end of Season 7, and Davos has been at his side the whole time. Now, going back, the first word Shireen Baratheon taught Davos, while teaching him how to read was ‘Aegon.’

When asked about this, Liam said :

“Yeah, they’re very good at that sort of thing. David [Benioff] and Dan [Weiss] plant little Easter eggs there if you want to see them.”

So did he know this was an Easter egg back when he shot it? Apparently he had no idea :

“No, are you kidding me? I don’t know what the hell’s gonna happen from one episode to the next. That’s testament to how good the writing is on that, too. After seven seasons, people are still asking the same question they asked in Season 1. ‘Who do you think is gonna end up on the throne?’”

He was then asked about the last table read of Game of Thrones, and how he thinks it will be :

“Yeah, we’ll all be drunk. No, I’m kidding. I’m kidding.”

No, it’ll be the last time we do it. I did get an email from David and Dan talking about, “This is the last table read,” and that was a really sweet email. Yeah, it’s gonna be really odd. It’s gonna be very odd. We’ve kind of been trying to prepare ourselves for the end of this from the beginning of last season.”

“That’s when we kind of said we have to start thinking about this. This is gonna end. They’re gonna take this baby off us. We’ll be out in the wilderness again with nobody even remembering who we are. Back to obscurity.

He also revealed that that secret that George R. R. Martin told him was nothing ‘monumental’.
