A week ago, the team of Killing Eve gave the best possible news to its fans. The series which was scheduled to premiere its season 3 on April 26th was preponed by two weeks. The first episode of season 3 will be airing on April 12 now and the cast is naturally quite excited. Gemma Whelan who played the role Yara Greyjoy in HBO’s Game of Thrones is part of the season too and she had plenty to share in a recent interview. Read on to find out more!
Amongst the many actors who have been cast as part of the third season, Whelan is one of the most exciting addition. She has proved her mettle as an actor in HBO’s blockbuster saga and now looking to extend the good work. She has quite an interesting story about when she was having her first read of the third season. As per Metro she said:
“When I was at the read-through, and we went through the first block of scripts, there were quite a lot of audible gasps in the room, when certain things happen, which was very exciting.”
Whelan plays the role of Geraldine, the daughter of the calculated Carolyn (Fiona Shaw) and sister of Kenny (Sean Delaney), who is forced to move back home. About her character Whelan says:
“Geraldine’s sort of never really found her niche in life – she’s never really found her proper directional calling. She’s a bit directionless, and she’s very easy with her emotions, so that’s obviously quite interesting, is Carolyn who’s incredibly focused and driven and cold. Obviously that, against Carolyn’s sort of coldness and her deep sort of…. she’s found her calling and her profession. It’s interesting to see how the two of them learn to live together again.”
Whelan was also thrilled at the prospect of playing the role opposite Fiona Shaw. She said:
“When the casting breakdown came through for that, I was just so excited at the prospect that they would think that I was even castable to play against Fiona Shaw, I’ve just been a huge fan of her since Three Men and A Little Lady, you know I just think she’s so funny and so clever and so brilliant at what she does. So I was very, very pleased to win the role, and work with her.”
Well, we are sure that Whelan will be adding a completely different dimension of her own to an already successful franchise. Afterall she left her own little mark in a show of gigantic proportion in Thrones. We are excited to see her in a new avatar. What about you? Let us know your views in the comments below!
