It required 10 hours of make-up to get the Children of the Forest ready for shooting!
Children of the Forest have been shown not very often in Game of Thrones but in this Sunday’s episode, ‘The Door’, there were five of them, with Leaf, the leader of Children of the Forest sacrificing herself to save Meera, Bran and Hodor.
The appearances of Children of the forest are very simple, they basically look like they came out of earth with mud and branches all over them. But to create the creatures, it takes almost 9-10 hours of prosthetics and make-up. The actors playing Children of the Forest have to go through long make-up sessions which also include hair styling and prosthetics to look their part.
HBO has released a behind the scene video of the climax of The Door in which we get to see how the entire scene in the Three-Eyed Raven’s cave was shot and it also shows us the grueling make-up process that the actors need to undergo to transform themselves into the Children of the Forest.
Actress Kae Alexander, who plays Leaf in the series said that whenever there was a scene that needed full body prosthetic, she would be picked up at midnight and she would be on the set by 10 AM! Take a look at the behind the scenes video for that last sequence of ‘The door’ and how children of the forest are created.
