Issac Hempstead Wright reveals George R. R. Martin told Game of Thrones showrunners that Bran would become the King

Game of Thrones went off the books quite a while before the show ended. The show initially followed the storyline of George R. R. Martin’s books, but as most of you know, George hasn’t finished the books, which means we don’t know for sure what Geroge’s ending is. However, recently Issac Hempstead Wright revealed that George had told the Game of Thrones showrunners that Bran ends up as the King of Westeros. Read on!

Issac, who played Bran Stark on the show, revealed this in an interview on Making Game of Thrones. Discussing his reaction to finding out Bran’s fate, Issac said:

“I had to physically get up and walk around my flat. I said, “What?! You’re joking.” It was the very last thing I expected to happen. I was convinced they had sent a script to everyone in which they become king or queen, so I still didn’t believe it until the read-through.”

“But I think he is a great character to take on that role. You never thought of him in that way, but what more could you ask for in a king than to have no personal attachments, no agenda, but have a calm understanding of the entire universe? He’s the ideal person to be in charge.”

He then went on to reveal that Bran’s ultimate fate was nothing else but George’s design:

“[Creators] David [Benioff] and Dan [Weiss] told me there were two things [author] George R.R. Martin had planned for Bran, and that was the Hodor revelation, and that he would be king. So that’s pretty special to be directly involved in something that is part of George’s vision. It was a really nice way to wrap it up.”

Now, this wouldn’t have meant much, but if George explicitly planned this for Bran, then it is very likely that Bran does end up as the King in the book ending as well. George had recently commented on his ending, and he said that it will and won’t be similar to the show’s ending. Make of that what you will.
