HBO denies permission to George R.R. Martin's theater to screen Game Of Thrones Season 8 finale
HBO will not allow Jean Cocteau Cinema in Santa Fe, New Mexico – which also happens to be owned by A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin – to screen the Game of Thrones Season 8 finale. The cinema has been holding free screenings of Game of Thrones season premieres and finales for some time and they even screened the Season 8 premiere. Why HBO chose not to give permission this time is anybody’s guess.
The news came up on Jean Cocteau’s Facebook Page. They posted an image of Septa Unella with the caption: “Shame. Shame. Shame. We are sorry to report that we will unfortunately not be able to screen the Game of Thrones finale here at the Cocteau. We would like to thank everyone who has come out over the years to dress up in costume and watch these episodes with us – we do it for you!”
Elias Gallegos, Martin’s film and media director, told KOB4 that “Our trusty staff at Jean Cocteau Cinema obviously are disappointed that they’re not going to be allowed to stream the season finale of season 8.” He is in the dark as to why this little tradition was not allowed for the final episode of the series.
“They just said no, and so we’ll have to have our own private home parties and enjoy it like the rest of the fans out there.”
However, Gallegos is quick to assure that there is no misunderstanding between Martin and HBO on this regard – “George has a great relationship with HBO. He’s got a lot of things in the works coming and so as diligently as he is working on that book there’s a lot to come from George R.R. Martin.”
There there. Looks like we need not worry about the fate of those spinoffs just now.
Game of Thrones creator author George R. R. Martin is always under attack from his fans for doing everything but finishing up the next book in the series, The Winds of Winter. The latest in the line of things that George does that aren’t about releasing that book, is the fact that he has now opened up his own bookstore. Read on!
As many of you might already know, George is a resident of Santa Fe, New Mexico. He already has a cinema house there, named the Jean Cocteau Cinema, which he started in 2013. GRRM has now opened a new bookstore named Beastly Books, right next to the cinema.
The bookstore is apparently named after Beauty and the Beast, which is known as Jean Cocteau’s most popular film, as well as the name of a TV show GRRM worked on in the 80s. He made the announcement on his Not a Blog. Explaining the motive behind starting this establishment, George wrote:
“We’ve been doing amazing author events at the Jean Cocteau Cinema ever since we reopened the theatre in August, 2013. Dozens of terrific, award-winning, bestselling writers have appeared at the JCC to speak, read, and sign their books… SF writers, mystery writers, historical novelists, romance writers, thriller writers, mainstream literary writers, YA authors, non-fiction writer and journalists… the list goes on and on.
And all of them have signed stock for us. The only problem was the Jean Cocteau lobby was far too small for us to display all of these wonderful autographed books.”
The store will have a section of signed copies of GRRM’s works, in addition to signed works of numerous other popular authors.
So if you’re ever in Santa Fe, you know what to do. Hit us up in the comments, down below!
Iwan Rheon, famous for his portrayal of Ramsay Bolton in the show Game of Thrones, is all set to join the cast of American Gods. While the release date of American Gods third season isn’t out yet, we know for sure that Rheon will feature in the show in its latest season. According to the a report by Entertainment Weekly, the Game of Thrones star will be playing “a charming, good-natured leprechaun” character named Liam Doyle.
What? Hang on a minute! A charming, good-natured character? The man who portrayed the most inhuman, insensitive and sadistic character of all time will be acting all goody goody in the upcoming show?
Sometimes some characters leave such a large imprint on audience psyche that it becomes impossible for actors to break away from it. We hope for Rheon’s sake that he manages to create another great character.
As per the network, Rheon’s latest character will be introduced as someone trying to steer away from the cliched leprechaun image – ‘until he finds himself swept back into our world of gods, luck, and magic’. The show will also feature the likes of Marilyn Manson, Danny Trejo and Dominique Jackson.
The challenge for Rheon and the rest of the cast of Game of Thrones, as they begin to disperse into other ventures, is going to be how they manage to satisfy the artists within them along with staying relevant. For now, we can only wait and watch.

Game of Thrones might have been the king at the Emmy’s, but when it comes to the Golden Globes it has always been snubbed. It might not be fair to say that it was snubbed this year, as Kit Harington has grabbed the only nomination for the final season of the show at the 2020 Golden Globes. Read on!
The nominations for the 2020 70th Golden Globe awards were announced today, and while HBO managed to get 15 nominations, only one of them was for Game of Thrones. Kit Harington, who played the role of Jon Snow on the show managed to grab a nomination in the best actor in a drama series.
The show has previously grabbed multiple best drama nominations, and a couple of actor nominations to Peter Dinklage and Lena Headey. Dinklage is the only winner, having received the supporting actor in a series, miniseries or motion picture made for television, back in 2012.
While Dinklage won the Best Actor Emmy for the year, he wasn’t the choice for this nomination. Given the fact that Kit Harington was considered might be surprising for some, but he might make it.
The 77th Annual Golden Globe Awards will be hosted by Ricky Gervais, and will be held on Sunday, January 5 at 8:00 p.m. ET / 5:00 p.m. PT. Do you think Kit could win this one? Talk to us in the comments, down below!
