George R.R. Martin wants future Game of Thrones projects to be as diverse as MCU
Game of Thrones and Marvel are some of the biggest franchises the world has ever seen. Both are recognized as pop culture icons, and there’s hardly anyone on this planet who hasn’t heard of them. While Game of Thrones has become the benchmark for quality fantasy shows, Marvel has been a box-office breaking juggernaut over the past decade. Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin is a long-time comic book fan, and has been an avid reader since he was a child. He never shies away from expressing his love for Marvel, as he did recently on his visit to the San Diego Comic-Con 2022.
Martin was invited to the House of The Dragon panel at SDCC 2022, where he joined the cast and showrunners to answer various questions from curious fans. On being asked about the future of Game of Thrones shows, he said, “The MCU has The Avengers, but they also have something offbeat like WandaVision. That’s what I hope we can do with these other Game of Thrones shows, so we can have a variety that showcases the history of this world. There are only so many times you can do a competition for the Iron Throne.”
