George R. R. Martin to co-produce AMC’s upcoming TV series ‘Dark Winds'
George R. R. Martin is a name generally associated with the highly popular TV series, Game of Thrones, as its creator. However, he is expanding his working area. His skills now include helping to bring other famous novels to life as well. The writer is now an executive producer for AMC’s upcoming TV show ‘Dark Winds‘. He’s tagging along with Graham Roland and Robert Redford.
AMC network has decided to build a TV series adaptation of Tony Hilerman’s ‘The Dark Wind’ novels for AMC+ and AMC. The show will be led by Westworld alum Zahn McClarnon. (The show Westworld also shares a connection with Game of Thrones!)
The official description of the show narrates: “Based on the iconic Leaphorn & Chee book series by Tony Hillerman, Dark Winds is a psychological thriller that follows two Navajo police officers in the 1970s Southwest. As their search for clues in a grisly double murder case forces them to challenge their own spiritual beliefs and come to terms with the trauma of their pasts.” The first season of the show is expected to have 6 episodes.
Here’s what Martin has to say about the series, “Tony Hillerman was one of the greats, as every mystery reader knows. Down here in the Southwest, Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee are as iconic as Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot, Philip Marlowe, and Travis McGee. When my friends Robert Redford and Chris Eyre asked me to help bring Leaphorn and Chee back to television, I could not agree fast enough. We have great source material in Tony’s novel ‘Listening Woman,’ a great pilot script from Graham Rowland, a great director in Chris… and what a pair of leads, with Zahn McClarnon as Leaphorn and Kiowa Gordon as Chee! Our plan is to shoot in New Mexico, in and around Santa Fe and on the Navajo reservation, and we are bringing in as many Navajo and other Native Americans as possible, as writers, directors, cast, and crew, to capture all the magic and mystery and wonder of the Land of Enchantment. Thanks to AMC for making it possible. Tony Hillerman wrote a lot of amazing books, and it is our dream to adapt as many of them as we can.”
Dark Winds is scheduled to arrive in 2022 on AMC+ and AMC. The shooting will take place on Navajo Nation land.

Game of Thrones prequel House of The Dragon has created quite a buzz amongst the fan community. Ever since its announcement back in 2019, fans have been on the edge. That’s why when it began filming in April this year, they’ve been flocking everywhere the shooting is taking place to get a glimpse of the ongoing action. And HBO has taken strict measures to ensure all the inside details stay hidden until the show is officially released. However, certain details are leaked every now and then.
Last week it was reported by the Spanish newspaper Hoy that the Game of Thrones prequel will be shooting at key places in Spain and Portugal. Though we knew which locations in Spain were going to be used, there was no news about any such place in Portugal. Now we know where the series is going to film, the first shoot in Portugal for the Game of Thrones franchise.
As reported by MiscelANA, the location that was picked for House of The Dragon is the historical Portuguese city of Monsanto, closer to the border with Spain. Monsanto (Saint Hill in Portuguese) is also known as the city of stones due to its unique houses made of stone and surrounded by mountains. It looks perfect as a scene from the Game of Thrones.
Monsanto is one of Portugal’s oldest cities, laid back with Roman ruins. It was Dom Afonso Henriques who won it back from the Moors and gifted it to the Templars. They built the castle and the fortress which still harbours some of the remains after so much time.

Game of Thrones was a decade-defining phenomenon, gaining unprecedented popularity during its run. The franchise still owns a massive fandom, and the merchandise related to the show is quite sought after. Some of them are very valuable, and are deemed to be very special. Hence many people wish to own them, and some try out not so ethical means. Kingston Police are asking for public assistance in identifying the male suspect in the theft of some pricey Game of Thrones scotch from a downtown LCBO location.
According to police, the theft occurred a few months ago at approximately 3:50 p.m. on Sunday, Mar. 14, 2021. A male suspect entered the LCBO located at 34 Barrack Street, and proceeded to steal $1,000 in alcohol. The man took five bottles of 15-year-old Mortlach limited edition Game of Thrones scotch, which are valued at $200 per bottle. Police say the man removed each of the bottles from their respective custom boxes and placed them inside his jacket. He then left the store without making any attempt to pay for the concealed items.
The suspect is described as a male Caucasian, approximately 45 to 50 years of age, standing 5’11” and weighing 200 lbs. In surveillance footage, the suspect appears to have a dark beard under his face mask. He was wearing a black toque, black jacket, blue jeans, and black work boots at the time of the theft.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Constable Chris MacDonald at [email protected] or via 613-549-4660 ext. 6247. Tips can also be made anonymously by calling the Kingston Police general number (613-549-4660 ext. 0) and asking to remain anonymous.
Looking at the scenario, we can safely assume the convict has a great taste in scotch. He just went for it the wrong way. What do you think of the incident? Tell us in the comments below!
After making the viewers wait for nearly a year, House of the Dragon began production earlier in April this year. Fans are already hyped up about the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel, as leaked pictures from the shooting sites keep popping up all over the internet. The show is also the first project to be filmed on Warner Bros UK’s newest virtual stage setup at Leavesden Studios, which is also its primary shoot location.
Warner Bros. Studios at Leavesden (WBSL), U.K., has expanded its facilities with the launch of three new sound stages and V Stage, a virtual production stage.
House of the Dragon is confirmed as the first production to use the new facilities. In addition to the extensive exterior backlot at the studios, V Stage will enable the series to expand upon its existing variety of international landscapes.
Some 83,000 sq. ft. of additional production space will be available at the U.K facility. The V Stage, one of Europe’s largest virtual production stages, offers 24,000 sq. ft. of total space, and the inside will feature a 7,100-sq. ft. wraparound virtual production environment, using a matrix of more than 2,600 LED panels integrated with a state-of-the-art processing system. A dynamic ceiling offers an additional 5,544 sq. ft. of LED panels with eight sections that work independently of one another, lifting and tilting to provide a new level of creative scope.
“The launch of V Stage brings a completely new dimension to filmmaking at WBSL, providing an exciting environment in which to deliver a new level of creativity,” said Emily Stillman, senior VP, studio operations, Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden. “With the show’s incredible imaginary worlds and exceptional quality HBO always delivers, ‘House of the Dragon’ is the perfect production to maximize the unparalleled opportunities this space offers.”
“A production with the ambition and scale of ‘House of the Dragon’ really requires a studio that can provide cutting-edge facilities,” said Janet Graham Borba, executive VP, West Coast production, HBO. “The new virtual stage adds to the highly supportive home hub for the show at Leavesden and lets us take full advantage of the latest developments in technology.”
For the prequel series, it seems like HBO is trying to level up on every aspect that made Game of Thrones such a huge success. On what pointers do you think House of The Dragon should focus on to be a bigger hit than the original show? Tell us in the comments below!
