George R.R. Martin celebrates 20th anniversary of Game of Thrones with an illustrated edition
It’s been a long time since Game of Thrones has been in our mortal world, and the fact that it gained popularity to a large extent is due to the show, despite the fact that the book series penned by author George R.R Martin has had a great fan following years before the show aired anyway. On the 20th anniversary ofA Song of Ice and Fire, George R.R Martin wrote a blog about how far he and his work has come in the past 20 years. He also discussed the special edition release of a 20th anniversary illustrated edition that will consist of 73 illustrations and 48 images depicting the life in Westeros.
Martin confirmed in his blog that he is still not finished with the sixth installment ofA Song of Ice and Fire-The Winds of Winter.
He wrote,“Here I am, 20 years later… still working on book six… (and no, sorry, I have no announcement to make on that front).”
With the ever increasing popularity of Game of Thrones, you’d think it was just as popular back when the books were released. However, Martin says it was not the same then.
“Things have changed a bit in these last 20 years. “Reviews were generally good, sales were… well, okay,” Martin remembers. “Solid. But nothing spectacular. No bestseller lists, certainly.”
To commemorate the fact that the books have never been out of print in the last 20 years, Martin said that this special edition being released was on his mind. The book will be released in October this year.
