Game of Thrones writer/producer Bryan Cogman is working on the fifth prequel series!
Game of Thrones has been a great show for seven seasons now. Season 7 ended recently, but Season 8 preparations have already started, and that’s not it, HBO is already working on following up Game of Thrones. As we have been reporting, HBO is developing prequel series to Game of Thrones. We initially heard that there were four ideas under development, with different writers on board, none of which had worked on Game of Thrones.
Geroge R. R. Martin then said that there was a fifth idea under development, and recently confirmed that there are, indeed, five prequels in the oven, but we didn’t have any detail about the fifth prequel idea, until now. We now have official confirmation that the fifth prequel idea is being developed by none other than Bryan Cogman! Read on!
Now, in case you don’t know, Bryan Cogman is the third name we take after David Benioff and Dan Weiss, when speaking of who makes Game of Thrones what it is. According to a exclusive report from Entertainment Weekly, Cogman is working on the prequel project along with author George R.R. Martin, who is the creator of Game of Thrones.
After it had been confirmed that David and Dan were not involved directly with the prequel developments, fans had been wondering if the prequels will be considerably different from Game of Thrones, but with Cogman developing one, we can expect at least one prequel idea that will be a smooth transition from the original show. The writers working on the other prequel ideas are Max Borenstein, Jane Goldman, Brian Helgeland, and Carly Wray. We only know a few details about just one of the four prequels, the one Jane is working on, in bits and pieces.
Cogman has worked on Game of Thrones since Season 1, when he assisted Benioff and Weiss. He has gone on to write quite a few of some of the best Game of Thrones episodes, including the Season 3 episode “Kissed by Fire“, which showed Jaime Lannister having a profound moment with Brienne of Tarth, in a bathtub, Season 4 episode “The Laws of Gods and Men“, which showed Tyrion Lannister‘s trial, and the Season 7 episode “Stormborn,” which was arguably one of the strongest episodes of the season, so we know that this one will be good.
