Game of Thrones reportedly returning to Iceland to shoot season 7
Game of Thrones season 6 just got over and with it signaled the arrival of Winter. In the last episode we saw White Ravens flying from the Citadel in Oldtown when Samwell Tarly just reached there and by the end of the episode, one of those ravens reached Winterfell. Jon Snow and Sansa Stark joked about “Winter is here” but for Game of Thrones fans around the world, it didn’t turn out to be as exciting as they thought it would be. A reason for that is the announcement by Game of Thrones showrunners saying that Game of Thrones season 7 premier is going to be delayed as Winter hasn’t arrived at most of the places where filming is done.
As a result of this, Game of Thrones seems to be looking for locations where they will easily find lot of snow. Icelandic news siteVísir.is has reported that HBO is planning to film scenes in Iceland in January and representatives from HBO have met production companies in Iceland to discuss about filming Game of Thrones in January 2017!
There’s also a report that the Icelandic scenes will feature 6 major characters from Game of Thrones. We assume the characters might be Jon Snow, Sansa Stark, Davos Seaworth, Bran Stark, Littlefinger and we might get to see Brienne as she will return to Winterfell to be with Sansa Stark. It’s also possible that the Hound might travel North as we last saw him with the Brotherhood without Banners who talked about the North.
Game of Thrones has used Iceland in the past to film many scenes beyond the Wall and also scenes from the Riverlands. The other prominent scene to be shot in Iceland was the fight between the Hound and Brienne of Tarth.
